What Makes Tree Wrapping Special? How We Do It

Tree wrapping turns your landscape into a holiday highlight with meticulous care and artistry.

We select the correct lights for each tree based on type, size, and what will look best on your property. If you’re unsure which tree to feature, our expert design team will walk your property and recommend the best options for a showstopping display.

Although wrapping trees can look similar, each is unique. We account for:

  • The type of tree (deciduous, evergreen, ornamental)
  • Tree size and trunk thickness
  • Accessibility and location on your property
  • Design goals—such as full tree wrapping or just base/trunk features

Our Step-by-Step Process: LED Mini Strands

  • Lighting Selection: We use LED mini strands chosen for durability and appearance.
  • Secure Starting Point: We begin at the base, fastening the first strand with staples or steel wire for absolute stability.
  • Tight, Stable Wrapping: Each strand is wound tightly to add extra stability and visual consistency.

Weather-Proofing

  • Female open sides that are not interconnected are covered with electrical tape, blocking any water intrusion.
  • All connectors for mini strands are twisted together before plugging in, which keeps connections tight and stable.
  • Even though our minis are weatherproof, we add this extra layer of security for complete professionalism and peace of mind.

Methodical Branch Coverage

  • All strands are wrapped upward from the trunk, then branch outward into any solid, reachable branches—until the tree’s growth naturally becomes too dense.

Design Limitations

  • The number of branches we can safely wrap depends on each tree’s type, the accessibility of limbs, and how open the tree’s structure is.
  • Our goal is always to showcase each tree’s best form.

Even Spacing

  • To prevent crossing or tangling, we carefully maneuver the lights and double back if needed—ensuring every wrap has equal, eye-pleasing spacing.

Synchronization

  • After finishing, SPT1 wire is run from the base, connecting everything to a timer so all lights on your property illuminate together in perfect sync.

Power Load

  • We always count the number of strands on each circuit to ensure safe power draw—avoiding tripped fuses or overloads.

Cost Transparency

  • Tree wrapping can be more expensive than standard displays, due to the extra materials and skilled labor required. We always explain things clearly up front.

C7 Bulb Wrapping: For Dramatic Exterior Illumination

For a bold look on the outside of your tree, we typically use C7 bulbs spaced at either 18 or 24 inches:

Example Project

Last winter in Williamsville, we wrapped 60ft evergreen tree, which required a boom lift. Safety, we decorated this tree with multiple colors, running all lines vertically, over 1000 C7 bulbs. This tree was set to dusk and dawn, and we ran the wire across the bed of plants and between cracks on the sidewalk into the outlet, using landscape staples to secure the wire down.

Vertical Method Only

  • We always run wires vertically, never zig-zag or horizontal, to avoid unsightly lines and deliver that flawless, vertical holiday look.

Top-Down Security

  • Each line starts at the top, and we create a strong loop around the tree’s peak to anchor every strand.
  • Wires are maneuvered left and right and wrapped around lower branches as needed for a crisp, clean finish.

Handling Gaps

  • If your tree has open gaps or sparser branches, we either snug the wires using extra wrapping or close spaces with steel wire—always striving for symmetry, even with a tree’s natural shape.

Final Touches

  • All C7-wrapped trees are completed with SPT1 wiring at the base for timer synchronization, just like our mini lights.

F&Q for Tree Wrapping | Hearth & Halo

  • How long does the tree wrapping process usually take for an average property?

Most residential properties are completed in one day, but larger trees or displays may require additional time. We'll give you a clear timeline at your quote appointment.

  • Can wrapped trees be safely watered, pruned, or accessed while the lights are on?

Yes—tree health remains a priority. Our wrapping techniques allow for normal watering and mild outdoor maintenance, and we’ll show you how to avoid disturbing the lights.

  • What happens if my power supply can’t handle the number of lights we’d like?

If your current electrical supply isn’t sufficient, we’ll recommend safe solutions such as splitting circuits or adjusting the display plan. We always ensure safety comes first.

  • Are there any restrictions based on tree species, age, or health?

While most established outdoor trees are excellent candidates, we’ll always inspect for health or stability. If a tree isn’t suitable, we’ll let you know and suggest alternative décor ideas. If a tree is over grown, we will ask that it gets trimmed in specific locaiton, or we can trim it for you!
